Verbinski Boards The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Twentieth Century metformin hydrochloride 850 mg Fox is envisioning The Secret Life of Walter Mitty as a remake of the 1947 film rather than going back to the original short story by James Thurber.

As reported in Variety, Fox is already talking cast and could put the film into production as soon as Spring 2011.  Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happiness) is scripting.

Various parties have tried to get this remake off the ground over the years with casting attachments including Sacha Baron Cohen, Mike Myers, and Jim Carrey in the lead role.

The short story concerns a day-dreaming book editor who can’t seem to do anything right, so imagines all sorts of exciting lives for himself.

I’m still disappointed that Verbinski’s version of Bioshock didn’t go forward.  I was fortunate enough to be in his office and see the concept artwork and set design of that film and it looked absolutely incredible.  And very, very expensive, which was apparently Universal’s problem with it.

This film doesn’t repair that hole in my heart but this could be a very cool, adult fantasy.  The kind of movie we don’t see that often like a Big Fish or Forrest Gump.  Early speculation has Verbinski regular Johnny Depp in the lead.  I’ll buy a ticket for that.
