Earlier today, Green Lantern co-producer Geoff Johns (via his twitter) made it official:

While that’s cool in its own right, and I’m glad to hear that Martin Campbell’s (Casino Royale, Edge of Darkness) next film is moving right along, the more interesting news is that Warner Bros. has already signed a writer to pen a second Green Lantern movie.. Michael Goldenberg (Contact, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), who scratched out a credited rewrite of Green Lantern, is currently writing the sequel. Having any of the Harry Potters and Zemeckis’ Contact under your belt is never a bad thing; Goldenberg is a talented writer, but, honestly, it’s a little premature considering that the ink is fresh on a follow-up to a movie that won’t be out until June 2011.
Obviously, Warner Bros. is no doubt searching for their next superhero hit, which isn’t surprising since the next Superman‘s been in production limbo since Returns, and Batman 3 is seemingly the last film starring the Caped Crusader that we’ll see for awhile. Hopefully, I’m worrying about nothing, and the Powers That Be already have a brilliant idea for a sequel, and aren’t just bribing Goldenberg to crank out another, so that they can start milking an unborn franchise.
Green Lantern hits theaters on June 17, 2011 in – you guessed it – 3D.
