Rooney Mara gets a Dragon Tattoo

Well it’s official, and somewhat metformin 1000 mg pcos long awaited, to hear that Rooney Mara has won the prized and heavily sought after role of Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

I’m so freaking happy they went with a relative unknown. Rooney is the younger sister of Kate Mara, whom I’ve actually had the pleasure of working with last summer on Josh Radnor’s happythankyoumoreplease. Kate’s an incredible actress and made a huge impression on me from the first time I saw her in Brokeback Mountain. I’m expecting she didn’t take all the talent in the Mara family. Rooney’s IMDb isn’t too expansive, but it includes The Social Network, David Fincher’s next film about the creation of Facebook. Clearly she did some work that impressed him to bring her on for the Salander role. And this role is no joke. I said before I thought there was no way they could go with a big name because it just wouldn’t be believable. Salander is a huge role to take on and she gets involved in some pretty dark shit, so seeing Queen Amidala (as great an actress Natalie Portman is) getting raped is not the kind of association you want a viewer to make in the theatre.

I’m also curious if they’re going to change the name of Lisbeth since it isn’t exactly American sounding. I hope not. The only computer hacker, bi-sexual, photographic memory genius’ with a dragon tattoo scaling their spine I know are named Lisbeth. Anyway, I’m really looking forward to seeing Rooney in makeup. In David Fincher I trust. Here’s to the potential of an era of Mara domination.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is set to be released by Sony on December 21, 2011 (exactly one year before the end of the world) and features Rooney opposite the already cast Daniel Craig, Robin Wright & Stellan Skarsgård. Tattoo is adapted from the Stieg Larsson novel of the same name by Steve Zaillian and will be directed by David Fincher.
