In a metformin hydrochloride major deal for JJ Abrams, Fox has given a pilot commitment to Alcatraz, a top secret project from a script by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt. Lost executive producer Elizabeth Sarnoff did a final rewrite on the screenplay and will serve as Showrunner. Very little is known about the project which is described as:
“a show about mysteries, secrets, and the most infamous prison of all time.”
Fox did a similar deal for JJ Abrams’ show Fringe so all signs point to this being a lock to get on the air by the end of next year. Abrams’ company Bad Robot Productions will produce with Warner Bros. Television. Elizabeth Sarnoff and Abrams will Executive Produce while Lilien and Wynbrandt will serve as Co-Executive Producers. Lilien and Wynbrandt have been known at hot up-and-coming writers around town since coming off the cult hit ABC Family show Kyle XY.
JJ Abrams’ next network show, Undercovers, is a much more straight-ahead grounded in reality premise, so fans of Lost are really hoping this will be the supernatural mystery show to replace it.
Just a theory here, but prepare to have your minds blown. (LOST SERIES SPOILER ALERT)
What if the end of Lost, in which Hurley and Ben Linus take over running The Island, is just a segue into this show? What if Alcatraz is in fact The Island from Lost!???? Ben Linus will play the tough-as-nails captain of the guards, cracking inmate skulls and doling out beatings at every turn. Hurley is the “obtuse” Warden who is manipulating the system for his own financial gain. That’s right, I just did a Lost/Shawshank Redemption mashup. Deal with it.
