Day 16: Suspiria (1977)
“Suzy, do you metformin hydrochloride and alcohol know anything about… witches?”
Suspiria represents a perfect, simple, classic horror plot. Jessica Harper stars as Suzy Banyon, a young American ballet dancer who arrives at a prestigious European dance academy only to slowly realize that the school is run by a coven of witches.
What more metformin 1000 mg dosage do you need to know? This movie is a slow burn as Suzy gradually puts the pieces together as her close friends turn up missing or dead, killed in various gnarly ways. (Death by a room full of barbed wire always sucks, doesn’t it?)
What really sets this movie apart is the influential direction of Italian filmmaker Dario Argento, considered one of the most important horror auteurs of all time. The movie’s cinematography is breathtaking, using a highly unnatural palette of bright blues and reds that create an intense dreamlike atmosphere. This is augmented by a supremely awesome and, by present day standards, absolutely ridiculous score by a band called Goblin.
If you want to see a film that shows horror can be both entertainment and art, definitely seek this one out.
