Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann to Reprise ‘Knocked Up’ Roles

For Judd Apatow’ s fourth metformin hcl 850 mg directorial effort he will return to his 2007 hit comedy Knocked Up. The new film will further explore the relationship between Debbie, the older sister of Katherine Heigl’s character, and her rock band talent-scouting, fantasy baseball-playing husband, Pete. Both Paul Rudd and Apatow’s wife, Leslie Mann, will reprise their roles.

Variety reports that the currently untitled film is set for a June 1, 2012 release. Apatow has not revealed any plot details or confirmed if Seth Rogen or Heigl will return as well. Heigl seems like a long shot, the actress having gone on record saying that she did not enjoy Knocked Up because she felt it was, “a little sexist,” and that it ”paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys.” I’d almost say this is for the better. Although she turned in a solid performance in the film, I have never been a huge fan of Heigl and I thought the characters of Pete and Debbie were the best parts anyway. At least a cameo by Rogen would be fitting though, with or without Heigl.

Apatow’s most recent film, 2009′s Funny People, was not as well received by the masses as his first two efforts, but I thought it was a moving, well-developed examination of the complexities of relationships among a group of people at very different crossroads in their lives. I expect more of the same from Apatow this time around, hopefully with more mind to not stray so far from his comic roots.

“hopefully with more mind to not stray so far from his comic roots.” I think FUNNY PEOPLE goes to his comic roots more than anything he’s ever done, as well as possibly any movie ever made broaching comedy as a subject. Honestly, I think FUNNY PEOPLE is a masterpiece. I’ve probably seen it at least 10 times now. And all the criticisms most people say, I felt the same way when I first saw it.

I agree that its a masterpeice. Funny People is no less of a movie than 40 Year Old Virgin or Knocked Up, I just don’t feel it is quite as all around funny.
