Catwoman and Bane Cast in The Dark Knight Rises

Endless debate metformin weight loss and speculation over who should be the villain(s) in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises can now be put to rest. Warner Bros. announced the names of the two villain roles today and the actors who will play them. One was expected and the other is a bit of a shock. Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle, better known as Catwoman, and Tom Hardy will play Bane.

Hathaway was one of the actresses mentioned as candidates for two female roles (the other is suspected to be Talia al Ghul) by Heat Vision. Hardy’s name has been attached to the project for a while, but rumors pointed to him possibly playing Dr. Hugo Strange. Bane is a choice straight out of left field and at first does not sound like a character that would mesh with Nolan’s established universe. The thought of Bane as Batman’s new adversary may leave a sour taste in the mouth of those who have yet to block 1997′s Batman and Robin from their memories, but Bane’s comic book origins have potential to be adapted in a very different and interesting way, especially with Hardy playing him.

Here is the official press release from Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Christopher Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.” Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. “The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
