RIP, the Credits Song

There was metformin er 500mg side effects a time when credits songs from animated movies rocked the (adult contemporary) charts. Apparently nothing says L-O-V-E quite like a sexified cover of a drawn couple’s courtship. But there were also the songs that just brought the cheesy. Let’s reminisce together.

* Just so metformin weight loss clomid you know, Randy Newman doesn’t count. They won’t even play his drivel at the dentist’s office.

1. “Somewhere Out There” from An American Tail, performed by Linda Rondstadt and James Ingram (1986)

I’m going to go ahead and declare this the start of the trend based on my shoddy wikipedia research. You really don’t get any better than duet master Linda Rondstadt and R&B superstar James Ingram. And the acting in this video is incredible.

2. “Love Survives” from All Dogs Go to Heaven, performed by Irene Cara and Freddie Jackson (1989)

I don’t know that this song was popular, but it’s crappy enough to be included in this list.

3. “If We Hold On Together” from The Land Before Time, performed by Diana Ross (1989)

You might not think you know this song, but you do. Your subconscious would never let you forget the most bearable thing about The Land Before Time.

4. “Beauty and the Beast” from Beauty & the Beast, performed by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson (1991)

Right? The ultimate in adult contemporary.

5. “Dreams to Dream” from An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, performed by Linda Rondstadt (1991)

Linda did it again.

6. “A Whole New Word” from Aladdin performed by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle (1992)

Peabo’s back, this time with the song that haunted elementary school talent shows for a decade.

7. “Some Other World” from FernGully: The Last Rainforest, performed by Elton John (1992)

I might have liked Avatar more if it included a sweet credits jam by Elton John (haha, topical). Also, how 1992 is this song?

8. “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King, performed by Elton John (1994)

Dammit, Elton! You gave me goosebumps. It’s just embarrassing how much I love this song.

9. “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas, performed by Vanessa Williams (1995)

I’m getting 7th grade choir PTSD from just thinking about this song.

10. “At the Beginning” from Anastasia, performed by Donna “breath singer” Lewis and Richard Marx (1997)

I freaking love this movie. And way to bring it home with the breathiest singers that have ever existed.

11. “Go the Distance” from Hercules, performed by Michael Bolton (1997)

This song is SO GOOD, and I don’t even really like this movie. And guys, I kind of love Michael Bolton.

12. “Reflection” from Mulan, performed by Christina Aguilera (1998)

This is where it all began for Christina. Although thinking back, this may have been the high point of her career.

13. “You’ll Be in My Heart” from Tarzan, performed by Phil Collins (1999)

Widely recognized as the end of the Disney Renaissance, Phil Collins’ soundtrack to Tarzan gave us an instant classic to be played on John Tesh’s radio show, even today.
