During the metformin hydrochloride and weight loss Super Bowl we finally got to see footage from three of the most eagerly anticipated movies of 2011 – Joe Johnston’s WWII period super hero flick, Captain America: The First Avenger, the “we’re trying to redeem ourselves for the last one here, folks,” Transformers: Dark of the Moon from Michael Bay, and the nostalgic, Spielberg-esque Super 8 from JJ Abrams. Catch the TV spots after the jump:
Both Captain America and Super 8 look fantastic from what we can see here. Everything so far of the former has been extremely promising and the commercial is no different. The 1940s timeframe feels just about perfect, Evans and the suit look great, and now we finally get a clear, albeit brief glimpse of the de-masked Red Skull! And for the Neal McDonough-philes among us, the time has come to finally gaze upon his mustachioed glory! As for Abrams’ Super 8, it looks and feels just like a movie a young, imaginative Steven Spielberg would make if young, imaginative Steven Spielberg was anti-aging and still around making movies today. The TV spot makes me want to curl up on the couch in a blanket, pretend it’s still the late 1970s, and relive my youth… if my youth didn’t actually occur fifteen years later.
As for Transformers, what is there to say? We see Optimus Prime wrecking fools like Liam Neeson drunk at a Christmas party and get to watch non-biological extra-terrestrials bulldoze Chicago. All that I have learned from it is that I strangely do not find Rosie Huntington-Whiteley attractive up to this point. Hopefully a full theatrical trailer will change that.
