Super Bowl TV Spots: Thor, POTC, Cowboys & Aliens

We’ ve already metformin weight loss children given you a look at three of the hottest trailers that aired during last night’s Super Bowl. But we’re not done yet. Here are three more brand-spanking new movie previews. Marvel’s “other” comic book movie, Thor, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Jon Favreau’s Cowboys and Aliens. Commercial spots for the Super Bowl reportedly ran at $3 million for 30 seconds. Which would make the combined cost of these trailers $9 Million. In case you’re not great at math, that’s $9 million  for 90 seconds. Quite a pretty penny. Luckily for you, we’re giving these suckers away. Because we’re awesome.

The trailer for Captain America arguably made the biggest splash, as almost no one has seen footage from the film yet. But let’s not forget Marvel’s other picture of the year, this Spring’s Thor, starring the relatively unknown Chris Hemsworth, the over-exposed Natalie Portman, and exorcist-of-the-moment Anthony Hopkins. Marvel hopes it can recapture the lightning in a bottle that was Iron Man, taking a relatively obscure superhero and thrusting it into the mainstream. Of course, unlike the two most successful box-office superheroes of late– Iron Man and Batman–Thor has actual superpowers. He’s, like, an alien. Whoa.

Then there’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Johnny Depp is back as Jack Sparrow for the fourth installment of this multi-billion dollar franchise. Pirate-shenannigans, exotic locales, and danger abound. As with any good sequel, this looks like more of the same, or as Hollywood calls it: a winning formula.

And lastly- we have Jon Favreau’s Cowboys and Aliens. I got a text from a friend during the Super Bowl that said, simply, “Why are Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in a movie called Cowboys and Aliens?” Only then did it occur to me that this Super Bowl spot is the first most people have seen or heard about the Sci-fi Western, while us geeks and fanboys have been anticipating it for a long time now. My response to him summed up how I feel about this project: “Because Jesus loves us all.”

What was your favorite Super Bowl spot? Did any of these thirty-second ads do more for you than their full-length theatrical trailer counterparts?
