Review: The Fighter

I feel metformin 500 mg for pcos for Mark Wahlberg. The guy spent four years preparing his mind and body to portray ‘Irish’ Micky Ward, yet he is overshadowed every step of the way by his costar, Christian Bale. The Fighter is Ward’s story, but the narrative follows equal parts Ward and his older half-brother and trainer, Dickie Ecklund, who Bale plays to perfection. We see Ward’s journey from mismanaged steppingstone to unlikely contender, while Ecklund battles a powerful crack addiction and attempts to rededicate himself as a person and trainer after a transformative prison term.

Trailer: Thor

The teaser trailer for Kenneth Branagh’s Thor has been oficially released. A very different trailer leaked online in July but the suits at Marvel had it quickly taken down. The new trailer does not play as strongly on the link to the Iron Man films as the leaked trailer, but Agent Coulson looks to feature prominently and Thor gets to kick all kinds of SHIELD ass after being cast down to Earth. I’m still not sold on the Asgard stuff, but everything looks more polished here than in the previous trailer and how can you not love Anthony Hopkins as Odin? Thor opens on May 6, 2011 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, and Natalie Portman. View the trailer after the jump:

Day 6: Fred Claus

Day 6: Fred Claus (2007)

Nick: “Of course some kids are both naughty and nice, so in that case we do an up to the minute determination. Hence the snow globe.”

Fred: “I better check up on the all-girls Swedish swimming team. Hoping they’re naughty!”

There are already too many movies about Santa Claus, so somebody made one about Santa’s brother? Hollywood must really be out of ideas… As it turns out, Fred Claus is actually one of the most inventive and entertaining Christmas films in recent memory. Sure it is still a typical family comedy and displays Vince Vaughn at his best and worst, but hey – there are certainly worse Christmas movies.

Review: Faster

When Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson left professional wrestling for the silver screen seven years ago, it was heralded as the return of the action star. Johnson was supposed to be the real muscle hero we had been waiting for since the decline of Schwarzenegger and Stallone, a man’s man that would kick ass and spit out one-liners into the next decade. He even had a passing of the torch moment with the governator himself in The Rundown. Poor choice of roles and the ever-evolving nature of Hollywood saw that this never quite came to pass, but in Faster, Johnson has come the closest yet to fulfilling the great promise he once held.

Trailer: Green Lantern

Few upcoming films have me worried as much as Green Lantern. Despite direction by Martin Campbell and a very capable lead in Ryan Reynolds, GL strikes me as a film with a very high margin for error. I had hoped the first trailer would alleviate some of my concerns and while it does not look bad, I’m getting a distinctly Star Wars-prequel vibe, no Temuera Morrison pun intended. Zemeckis to Direct Wizard of Oz Remake?

Original ideas are great, but what we really need is yet another modern Wizard of Oz movie. That is what we all want, right? Well just in case the other two ‘Oz’ films in development are not enough to whet your appetite, Robert Zemeckis may soon helm a live-action remake of the 1939 film. If this comes to fruition, of the three projects it will be the only direct remake and not a sequel or prequel.
