Review: Gulliver’s Travels
The updated Jack Black version of the classic Gulliver’s Travels is one of the worst things that I have ever seen. Not in movies, but period. One of the worst things I have ever seen period. I saw this film for free, at a press screening with complimentary popcorn and drinks and I still felt cheated. I legitimately feel like I have aged. Fragments of my childhood are no longer as easy to recall as they used to be. Tastes and colors have paled. There is a frown on my forehead that I fear has now become permanent. I thought about it on the way home and here is what I consider to be a conclusive list of things that are worse than this movie:
Gael Garcia Bernal to play Roberto Duran
![]()
Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal is set to play Roberto “Manos de Piedra” Duran in a biopic about the Panamanian boxer’s legendary bouts with Sugar Ray Leonard, and while I am officially away from the take148.com’s offices and unable to work for another week, this story has made it impossible for me to stay away.
Get ready for some analysis, bitches.

Day 5: 30 Days of Night (2007)
“Weird.”
I should point out first that I hate horror films and as such have absolutely no point of reference when I discuss one nor any right to critique one. But hell, I’m an asshole, so here we go. I love this movie. It has pretty much everything I’m looking for in a film, with an alpha male who is grizzled and doesn’t take any shit (Josh Hartnett, although I suppose I could do without an alpha male who looks like an old Chinese lady when he smiles), a hot chick (Melissa George), vampires, blood, thrills, a merciless monster of a villain (Danny Huston), and a resident nut job (Ben Foster, playing “The Stranger” exactly how he plays every character: BY SHOUTING REALLY REALLY LOUD ALL THE TIME BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT REAL ACTORS DO WATCH PAST-PRIME PACINO IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE ME).
