Comfort Food: The Very Thought of You

Old friends metformin weight loss reviews hanging out.

The Very Thought of You (1998) (or, its original British and less generic title, Martha, Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence) is a brief, endearing romantic-comedy. Most of its charm stems from how much I love all its leads: Tom “humorously short” Hollander, Rufus “never the winner unless you count Fortinbras” Sewell, Joseph “sexiest man of the late 90s” Fiennes, and Monica “blonde Manic Pixie Dream Girl” Potter. The film explores the bonds of childhood friendship when faced with a woman. Laurence (Fiennes) early one morning wakes up his psychiatrist neighbor and tells him all about how he and his friends all have experiences with an American woman (Potter) who decides to move to London because she’s so fed up with her life in Minneapolis.

Comfort Food: A Walk in the Clouds

Nice hat, Keanu.

Like most mid- 90s films metformin weight loss pcos that aired on cable every weekend of my youth, I’ve seen A Walk in the Clouds (1995) dozens of times. And you know what? It never gets old. This isn’t a lame Nicholas Sparks romance where someone is guaranteed to die; it’s a simple story that doesn’t try to be more meaningful than it is. You just follow two beautiful people over the course of a couple days as they fall in love: the perfect remedy for a romantic dry spell.

Comfort Food: 10 Things I Hate About You

“Who needs affection when you can have blind hatred?”

For a certain kind of girl, Kat Stratford is god. She’s smart, plays soccer, and doesn’t take crap from anybody. It’s the feminist dream. Or maybe just mine. Whatever. What I’m trying to get at is that Kat Stratford represents the intelligent girl all us nerd girls wanted to be in high school. Namely, a badass. While I’m still trying to become that awesome, 10 Things I Hate About You remains one of my favorite movies.

Comfort Food: Newsies

The eyes of a hero.

Sepia-toned pictures blend together in a montage showing tired faces of working class children of 1899 New York City. A voice tells us about the newsies, “a ragged army” of kids who hawk newspapers to survive. And they need a leader.

A pair of eyes comes into view.

Comfort Food: A Room with a View

What starts all the trouble.

There is nothing I love more than a good period piece romance. A large portion of my movie collection is various miniseries and film adaptations of classic literature just waiting for me to pull them off the shelf the next time I’m home sick or in need of a break from life. Almost instantly they make me feel better
