I love the underdog stories of films like The Hurt Locker and Crash, even though they are still criticized as lesser films of their respective years. Then you have the big winners and sweepers like Titanic and Return of the King where the race was over before the setup crew rolled out the red carpet. My favorite years, though, are the one’s where I’m stunned by the surprises of the night. If you play the “Oscar game” like I do, then you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Well, it’s that time again where we appreciate the underappreciated, the ignored, the overlooked, etc. I’m not going to stroke anyone’s ego, because God knows that these actors don’t need any more of a boost. In Volume 2 of FYC, I want to look at 5 actors whose performances in a supporting role were well-deserved but not honored with Oscar nominations.

I want to introduce you all to a new bi-monthly feature: For Your Consideration. Ironically titled, FYC takes a look at movies that were notoriously, criminally, and unfairly ignored by the Oscars. We’re not going to just be talking about Best Picture snubs, but movies that were overlooked in other categories as well. This isn’t an excuse to complain or open old wounds, but rather, to appreciate the work by others that the Academy couldn’t. I want to kick FYC off by discussing five movies that didn’t make the cut for the Best Original Score Oscar.
