Review: Rango

I’ m gonna metformin side effects hair loss say that the western is making a long-overdue comeback. With True Grit earning a Best Picture nomination at this year’s Oscars, and Cowboys & Aliens coming out this summer (SO stoked for that one), it seems that Hollywood, and movie-goers, are again embracing the tales of gun-slinging cowboys. And now we’ve got an animated western to feed the fire in Rango, the newest film from Nickelodeon Movies.

Review: Drive Angry

Written in 2D.
In another life Drive Angry could have been the perfect Nicolas Cage movie. It has all the makings, but we’re now living in the Grindhouse era where movies like Planet Terror, Death Proof, Machete, and Piranha 3D among others have altered the standards of what constitutes an acceptable movie. A few of those are in fact good films, but they are also part of a trend that has made it all too easy to get away with sloppy, half-baked filmmaking. This is the problem plaguing Drive Angry. It thinks it belongs in the aforementioned genre, but it doesn’t go far enough and has a script too lazy to amount to anything.

Banksy & The Oscars

This is a big surprise. I don’t agree with the concept of award ceremonies, but I’m prepared to make an exception for the ones I’m nominated for. The last time there was a naked man covered in gold paint in my house, it was me.

This year might have been the most exciting telecast in Oscar history. Why? Precisely for the words above and who spoke them — BANKSY.

Toy Story 3’s Chances at Oscar Success

Swans, boxers, dreamers, lesbians, kings, thrill-seekers, computer geeks, cowboys, and Ozarkians… (OK, so I cheated on the last one, but I didn’t manage to see that film), such is the competition at this year’s Academy Awards for Best Picture. It’s quite the eclectic collection, to be sure. And sharing the spotlight with that menagerie is a humble little group of toys who find themselves the subject of one of the most successful film trilogies of all time.

Being the third installment of the series, it’s appropriate that Toy Story 3 is also the third animated feature to ever be nominated for the Best Picture category. Disney has been campaigning like crazy since mid-December to hopefully make it the first animated movie to win the coveted title.

K.T., Vol. 2: Lonely Robots & Television

Part I: HBO Throwdown

I’ve taken to spending most of my “watching time” on television shows lately. Last month I was watching Louie, and when I ran out of Louis C.K. related things to watch, I had to find another drama.
